Gasoline
It’s where money goes
Black Gold from the Middle East
A Franklin per tank
Yes, my dad’s car really does cost a hundred dollars to fill. He drives a 2004 Acura MDX. It is a rather large luxury SUV, requiring fill ups using 91 octane fuel. I haven’t filled up my own car yet, and I’m sure that it would cost about 80 dollars. While filling up my sister’s car, we charged 40 dollars and the tank was still a fifth empty. 40 bucks probably wouldn’t fill half of my mom’s car’s gas tank.
But what does this mean? Arab oil cartels price gouging us? Big oil making huge profits? The station I went to today charged 3.97/gallon for 87 unleaded. Oh well. At least gas prices here don’t match the price of "petrol" overseas.
Public transportation is nice. You don’t need to concentrate on the road, or even getting there. You can sleep! All for the low, low price of 2-10 dollars. But isn’t that the price of 1-2 gallons of gas? So I’m not really saving money am I?
No, not really. You think hybrids save money? Well, things may be different now, but in the past, hybrids end up costing owners about the same amount of cash as a regular car would. I should know, I wrote a speech about it. But, times have changed. People care about the environment. It’s not how much money you spend, it’s where it goes. At least when you buy a subway ticket, it’s not your money going directly into a gas tank. It’s more indirect, where the oil goes into the powerplant which goes to the powerlines and into the third rail where it charges your train.
Or something like that.
Eagle Eye
Do they just sit there,
Tapping our phones, watching us?
We are merely pawns.
I’ve been seeing ads for this movie. Shia LeBouf also appeared on the Jay Leno show to push the movie. And frankly, I’d say that the concept is great. It’s a thriller, designed to scare you, to make you think of how much we rely on technology. And how much the government controls the technology to watch us. At least, that’s what I think.
Anyways, as a plug for both the movie and Alternate Reality games, I want to introduce Eagle Eye Freefall (http://www.eagleeyefreefall.com/). It’s a game produced to launch the movie it seems, and it’s an interesting experience. I don’t want to ruin too much, but just know that yes, the phone number you give actually needs to work. And preferably be your own, so you can answer it.
That is all for today, I’m a bit tired.
Curriculum Vitae: Course of Life
Make a resume
I mean, it’s only your life
Packed into one page.
Here is a scenario. Say someone is looking for a job. He will undoubtedly go through many different pathways in order to someone who would want to hire him. He could go to a job fair that could be school sponsored or open to the public. He could research directly from the comfort of his own home and send in an application online. He could ask friends if they or people they know are looking for new hires. There are so many methods he can use. However, all of these pathways hinge on one vital document–the résumé.
